Health & Safety
Overall and final responsibility for health and safety is that of the Board of Directors who are advised by the Building Safety Group. David Jones, Managing Director is the Director responsible for health and safety within Jones Building Contractors.
The company complies with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant legislations, meeting the standards required to protect all of our employees and any person likely to be affected by our work operations.
Our company policy is to attain and maintain high standards of health and safety performance throughout the company. As a reward for such high standards within our company we are pleased to say that we have gained 3 accreditations, which are, CHAS, Constructionline and EXOR. These accreditations are reviewed and assessed annually, which helps us to ensure the standards expected of employees and sub contractors who undertake works on its behalf remain of the highest.
Hazards are identified and the risk of injury, disease or dangerous occurrence is minimised by the achievement and maintenance of high standards of health and safety. These standards are attained, so far as is reasonably practicable by:
- Adequate arrangements for the regular assessment of work activities in order to identify associated hazards and control the risks arising.
- Arrangements for ensuring safety and the absence of risks to health in connection with the use, handling, storage, transportation and disposal of materials, equipment and substances.
- The provision of such information, instruction, training and supervision as is necessary to ensure the health and safety of employees and subcontractors, which includes carrying out regular Tool Box Talks.
- Providing any necessary personal protective clothing and equipment required as the result of a risk and occupational health assessment.
- The maintenance of any work place under the control of the company in a condition that is safe to use and without risk to health and the provision and maintenance of means of access to and egress from it that are safe and without risk.
- The provision and maintenance of working environment that are without risk to health and to address first aid; fire prevention and control; welfare facilities and arrangements for employees and subcontractors.
- The cooperation of employees and subcontractors to enable statutory obligations to be met.
- A visible management commitment to higher standards of health and safety achieved through monitoring performance and the continuous improvement of the health and safety culture throughout the company.
The policy is kept up to date, particularly as the business changes in nature and size. To ensure this, the policy and the way in which it is implemented is reviewed annually.
The Building Safety Group is our independent health and safety advisors who carry out impromptu visits to all of our sites, a minimum of every 2-3 weeks.
