Somerset Care is the largest not-for-profit company in Somerset. Based in Taunton, the company operates 27 care homes in Somerset and Gloucestershire which provide residential and nursing care for over 1,000 residents, and through their domiciliary care company ‘Care at Home’ they undertake over 20,000 hours of community care every week of the year.

Andrew Larpent OBE, Chief Executive of Somerset Care said, "The Somerset Care Group is investing heavily in developing new and improved care services to ensure we can enable older people in our care homes to enjoy the best possible quality of life.

We appointed Jones as a construction partner as we recognised a shared commitment to quality and a company that listened carefully to what we as the client were saying.  We have enjoyed working together with the teams from Jones on four major projects in Somerset.

Each has been complicated by the need to ensure that the lives of our existing residents have not been adversely affected by the building work.  This has required excellent teamwork and mutual understanding between the care home staff and the construction teams on site.

Jones staff have shown sensitivity and care in working alongside our staff.  The dialogue between client and contractor has been professional and friendly and we, and more importantly our residents, are delighted with our new buildings. Together we are setting new quality standards in care services for the elderly.  We are delighted to be working with the professional team from Jones.

In October 2005 Phase 1 and 2 of Frith House were completed.  A 62 bedroom residential home has been built in Burnham on Sea for client Somerset Care.  The contracts for Phases 1 and 2 were worth £2.4m.

Phase 3 works which are worth £700,000 included the stripping out of the existing remaining wing of the building and completely refurbishing it to form sixteen en-suite bedrooms with auxiliary lounges and assisted bathroom.  There is also the construction of a new laundry room and external works forming car parking, bin stores and bicycle storage.

£2.7 million project to re-develop the Grovelands Residential Home in Yeovil to provide a sixty-bed state of the art care home with dementia facilities.

In March 2006 Wyndham House was completed, an 18 bedroom extension to a care home for client Somerset Care.  This project also included a new dining room, lounges, public refurbishment of the existing back of house areas, additional hair dressing facilities and new garden area for residents use.  This contract was worth £1.3 million.

Gerald Lee, Director at St Monica Trust said, "The Garden House at Westbury on Trym currently provides accommodation for 50 residents. It is a purpose-built complex which houses the Trust’s physiotherapy and hydrotherapy department, and offers valuable and effective treatments to residents who have had a medical referral from their GP or other medical consultant.

We appointed Jones to build the twenty five bedroom extension to the Garden House because the building of care home is included in their range of specialisms with an experienced and informed team.  In fact they had been recommended to us by a care company who also work with Jones.  Our experience of them during the build has been simply excellent; they have been both friendly and professional.

Throughout the build they have answered all our needs and responded positively to the restrictions and specific requests that came with building an extension in a Care Home environment.  Residents and staff have been undisturbed and very complimentary about the attitude and approach of their employees.  We are confident that this project will be completed both on time and within budget which is a win-win situation for everyone."
